2021 Highlights

It's time to review our highlights of 2021, and what better way to start than with our Junior Disability Academies!

We asked Gary Bason (coach from Stonelees) to tell us of his experience and received this heartwarming message:

"The Disability Academy sessions I delivered were great fun and a very rewarding experience for me. All the boys that attended enjoyed the sessions, two were brand new to the game, two had played before; Ryan now attends a weekly class and Lewis represented Stonelees in the GolfSixes. The facilities at Stonelees allowed me the opportunity to vary the sessions and ensured the boys got to experience all aspects of the game including playing as a team in a Texas Scramble format on the Par 3 Course. A highlight of this was lending a trolley to David and listening to him proudly announce that he is now a ‘proper golfer’ as he walked around the course. His family, none of whom had played golf before, have since had a couple of Family Lessons with me, so they can all enjoy being together on the course. All four boys and their families were keen to attend again when the sessions start back in the Spring and I look forward to helping the project grow further in 2022."

Mark Trow (coach from Kings Hill) has also written about his experience running our Junior Disability Academies last year, highlighting what a great inclusive game golf is. We look forward to delivering many more happy moments in 2022!

"During the autumn of last year I was asked by Kent Golf to deliver 6 academy lessons to disabled children at the Growing Golf Academy based at Kings Hill GC.

Having coached a wide variety of players for the past 10 years I can honestly say that these 6 lessons were the most rewarding I’ve ever delivered. All 3 boys who attended were brand new to golf, seeing their enthusiasm, willingness to learn and excitement during every lesson was inspiring.

A highlight throughout the series was Finlay constantly shouting “Mark watch this, Mark did you see that” with a massive smile on his face. The sessions reinforced what golf should be about, enjoyment, fun and getting new players into the game we coach!

I look forward to resuming the coaching in the Spring, seeing the 3 boys again and hopefully having the opportunity to work with more inspiring youngsters!"

2021 Highlights Junior & Disability Academies

Other 2021 Highlight under the Junior Academies category has certainly got to be our Invicta 10s Tour (brainchild of Kim Brusadelli), which has proven to be a big success in its inaugural year with very positive feedback from parents and players and we fully expect an even bigger uptake in 2022.

Expectations before the Tour began, were of introducing young beginners (with or without handicaps) into the game with patience and help needed from our team of volunteers. We did not expect to see so much genuine talent on display. There were drives that had Pros gasping, many chip-ins in the chipping challenges and long putts sunk. Then, when they got out on the course, tee shots hitting the flags for near-hole-in-ones, close approach shots, beautiful bunker shots and many low-scores, far lower than anyone anticipated!

“My daughter and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the excellent Invicta 10s Tour events which we both thoroughly enjoyed. All the Kent Golf Staff were outstanding and full of encouragement, as were all the excellent golf professionals from each of the 5 events we attended.”
