Finals Day 2022

Congratulations to everyone for reaching the finals. All the matches were played in good spirit on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Three Feathers Gold
Juli Fayers – Nizels and Pat Moorcroft – Nizels
The match started with steady golf, but on the 3rd hole Pat’s drive went behind a tree. The recovery was left to right and she did manage to find her ball but conceded the hole to give Juli a 1 up lead.
Pat pulled this back to level with a birdie on the 5th hole. On the 6th hole Pat had the longer drive but missed the green and Juli was on the green in 2. Pat was up and down, Juli then had 2 putts to halve the hole.
The match remained all square at the turn and continued with steady pars on the 10th. Pat then started to pull away from Juli being 2 up after 12 holes and then the match concluded on the 16th hole with Pat winning 4&2.

Three Feathers Silver
Yvonne Drummond – Lamberhurst and Kim Daniel – Shortlands

The match started with a halve on the 1st hole and then Kim winning the 2nd with an up and down. On the 3rd Yvonne won the hole after Kim conceded after putting her ball in the trees and ending up with an unplayable, so the match went back to level.
On the 7th hole both players had to play a provisional ball from the tee, they were consequently found but this time Yvonne conceded the hole.
At the turn Kim was 2 up, but Yvonne wasn’t giving up especially as on the shot holes she had managed to either halve or win.
Kim continued her steady golf with an excellent short game which kept the pressure on Yvonne over the next few holes. This then enabled Kim to increase her lead giving Yvonne little chance of a comeback.
The match concluded on the 14th hole with Kim winning 5&4.

Three Feathers Bronze
Marion Sellar– Chislehurst and Kay Rowe – Wrotham Heath

Just like the previous match the 1st hole was halved but then Marion took the lead from the 2nd hole. On the 3rd Kay thought her ball had been lost but it appeared to have been found and consequently she played it. Unfortunately, it was the wrong ball which resulted in loss of hole.
Kay wasn’t giving up and started to fight back and won the 6th and halved the 7th but it wasn’t to be as Marion continued her winning streak and won the next few holes making her 5 up on the turn.
I think Marion would agree that the ‘golfing gods’ were on her side as she did manage to hit a fair number of trees during the round but the ball always ended up favourably for her and it just wasn’t Kay’s day!
The match concluded on the 12th hole with Marion winning 7&6.
For Marion this was her first win after reaching the final twice before, so it was third time lucky.

Millstede Trophy
Theresa Hunter – Knole Park and Kieki Chapman – Rochester & Cobham

This was a very closely fought match with only 2 shots in it, in favour of Tess. Kieki went into the lead early on and always kept her nose out in front. Tess made comeback after comeback, winning her shot holes, and was reportedly the only player on the day to hit her ball onto the green on the Par 3, 7th hole.
Kieki was 3 up at the turn after a couple of unlucky putts from Tess.
Eventually, after some very good golf on both sides on the back 9, Kieki closed out the match on the 16th hole winning 4&2.

Lohan Trophy
Georgina Carlotti & Jenny Rutherford – Canterbury and Elsa Gao & Anne-Marie Forrester – Sundridge Park

As with the other matches the 1st hole was halved, Canterbury then took the lead from the 2nd. Again, the 3rd hole proved challenging with a lost ball for Sundridge, but they made a recovery on the 4th making the most of their shot hole.
Canterbury then won the 5th hole with a par. Georgina had very soft hands on the 7th as she ran her ball over a bank off the green to around 6 inches.
On the turn Canterbury were 3 up and then went to 4 up after the 12 holes. Sundridge dug their heals in and halved the 14th and then won the next two holes resulting in Canterbury now only 2 up with 2 to play.
Canterbury did hold their nerve though and halved the 17th.
The match concluded on the 17th hole with Canterbury winning 2&1.
