Hinge Trophy Qualifier report

Date published: 8 Nov 2022

49 players turned up at Royal Cinque Ports for what was always going to be a very challenging day of golf.

Last minute changes to the course had been made which included high level pin positions and yellow tees, but even that wasn’t enough for the atrocious weather that the players encountered.

The course began to flood on the 3rd green soon after 10am and the referees and marshals worked tirelessly moving the water away from the pin and then again on the 14th green. Amazingly all the players persevered, and the majority even came in smiling.

Due to the horrendous weather and course conditions with the 14th green also flooding, the Championship Committee made the decision that this qualifying round would be determined over the 13 playable holes.

Lucas Dennison (Rochester & Cobham Park) came first with Jack Swift (North Foreland) and Charlie Wills (Rochester & Cobham Park) taking 2nd and 3rd places.

I would personally like to thank all the volunteers, who without their hard work and stamina the day would not have happened at all. Ken Hannah, Britta Nolle, David Hannam, Ali Mcguirk, Judith Halliday and Paul Cannons.

Hopefully everyone will have better playing conditions at the next round at Prince’s on Sunday 8th January 2023.
