End of Year message from Alan Austin, Chair

Date published: 19 Dec 2022

Where to start? What a great year for Kent Golf... Back in April we were awarded the title of England Golf 2022 County of the Year. Then followed one of the most challenging summers with extreme heat and drought for our Kent clubs, but despite the weather, Kent has had one of the best years for a very long time with team successes across the board. Three of our teams won their respective England Golf Qualifying events to reach the National Finals, a fabulous achievement!

Full list of wins for Kent is extensively long but a nice problem to have to report.

Women’s 1st Team EG National finals and South Region county week champions, Women’s Seniors SE League champions. Girls U18 South Region county week champions.

Men’s Seniors EG National Finals, SE League champions, Boys U18 EG National Final and SE League champions.

A big thank you to our coaches, team captains and volunteers who put hours of work into make these successes happen from the practice ground to the course. A big well done to all of our players across all teams who have done us proud this year.

Making golf accessible to all is a key tenant of Kent Golf, providing programmes for juniors and more recently, young adults with disabilities. This has been a great success in 2022 with inspiring coaching / mentoring from Kim Brusadelli (Junior Development Officer) and Kipp Popert our Disability Golf Ambassador. Congratulations to Kipp who is the World number 1 Golfer with Disabilities and lists four wins on the G4D 2022 Disability Tour as well as many other successful wins this year alone.

Our Junior Academies and mini tours go from ‘strength to strength’ developing boys and girls and providing the opportunity to engage in this wonderful sport, as we know, the lifeblood of golf is getting more young people into the game.

A well done must go to Ben Quinney from Rochester & Cobham Golf Club for being selected for the England Home Internationals.

The future is looking bright and a huge thank you again once again to all of our volunteers who turn up in all weathers to support, manage teams, run events and assist at our Academies. We must not forget our full-time staff who with their professionalism, energy and enthusiasm ensure it all ‘just happens’.

I would finally like to thank all of the Kent Clubs who have hosted our Kent Golf events throughout the year - your continued support is very much appreciated.

This just leaves me to wish you, the members, a very enjoyable festive season and let’s hope 2023 is another successful year for us all.

Season's Greetings 2022
