Hinge Trophy Round 2 report

Date published: 9 Jan 2023

Prince's Golf Club in Sandwich was the venue for our first event of 2023, Round 2 of the Hinge Trophy, and what a breezy affair it was. Mercifully, the rain stayed mostly at bay but scoring conditions were still difficult (especially on the 15th hole which seemed to be playing as an 800-yard-long par 7!). Perhaps, then, it was no surprise to find a Prince’s member at the top of the leaderboard with a very impressive two-over-par 74. Well played Tony Adams; booking his spot in the final at Royal St. George’s in style. Lloyd Nutley (North Foreland) took second place with 76 and Richard Moxham (Wrotham Heath) rounded out the top three with a 77, on countback from five other players. The top three finishers in the Nett table were Adam Perfect (Sidcup), Danial Naqvi (Littlestone) and Mark Muller (Bearsted).

Results were announced from the Round 1 qualifiers also: Littlestone – Gross 1st Charlie Hickling (Wildernesse), 2nd Max Murray (Sundridge Park), 3rd Alan Davie (Royal Blackheath), Nett 1st Martin Warren (Royal Cinque Ports), 2nd Thomas Burton (Wrotham Heath), 3rd Harry Moore (Shooters Hill). Royal Cinque Ports – Gross 1st Lucas Dennison (Rochester & Cobham Park), 2nd Jack Swift (North Foreland), 3rd Joe Hooper (Wrotham Heath), Nett 1st Martin Buckland (Pedham Place), 2nd Charlie Wills (Rochester and Cobham), 3rd Lewis Smith (Sittingbourne).

The top forty finishers from Prince’s have now qualified for the final at Royal St. George’s on Sunday 29 January where I am sure they will be looking forward to another stern test on the links.
