Women and Girls Multi Squad Day

Date published: 6 Feb 2023

Yesterday was our annual Women and Girls Multi Squad Day at Pedham Place. We had a great turnout with 35 members of our 1st, 2nd, Seniors and Junior Squads in attendance (and quite a few parents).

Most played a 9 hole Texas Scramble on the Par 3 Academy Course in the morning (won by Fiona Cameron, Anouk Woodhouse, Scarlett Newing and Lizzie Cummings with a gross 25) and others went on the range.

After lunch, we were treated to some very engaging presentations with the theme of the day being ‘Careers in Golf’. Steve Mitchell spoke about his golfing journey and his present role as Director of Golf at Boughton (The Cave). Ally Kutz, a new women’s squad member gave us an interesting insight into her golfing life and current role as a golf club fitter at Yonex in the South East.

Sasha Hellen, Dartford and Ellen Wilson, Cherry Lodge, who are members of our Junior County Week Squad told us about their enjoyable experience so far of the Kent Golf College at Pedham Place (this college is not part of Kent Golf).

And last but not least, Danielle Thwaites, Bearsted (was Dani Masters), now a member of our Women’s 1st Team Squad, gave us an engaging account of her progression from playing as a Kent Junior Girl at the age of 12, playing for the 1st Team and representing England at 13 right up until aged 20, representing GB and Ireland, finally turning Pro at 21. After an 8 year break, she is now back playing amateur golf.

We awarded our Junior Girls Order of Merit trophies with Skye Fontanelli, Faversham, winning category 1 (up to 14 handicap) for the 2nd year running. Georgina Carlotti, Canterbury, won Category 2 (15-24 handicaps) having won Category 3 last year and Elsa Gao, Sundridge Park won Category 3 (25 and above handicaps).

We also had the inauguration of our new Junior Girls County Captain, Sasha Hellen from Dartford GC and we wish her all the very best for an enjoyable and successful year.

It was great to see how engaged and inspired everyone was. It was a very enjoyable and successful day.
