Sittingbourne & Milton Regis GC was the venue for the pre season Kent Golf and England Golf WHS and Course Rating Presentations – where two sessions were held on 6th and 7th March to accommodate some 69 attendees from 37 clubs in Kent. The presentations were attended by Club Managers/Secretaries as well as Handicap Committee members and Club Competition Secretaries and provided an ideal forum for attendees to ask questions and seek advice on these key areas of every day handicap administration.
Mike Greener, Handicap Co-ordinator at England Golf provided a well received recap of the World Handicap System and took the opportunity to run through the functionality of the WHS Platform and My England Golf App and where required was able to provide ‘one to one’ assistance on various aspects of the system. There was a detailed presentation on Course Ratings from Mark Ward, who looks after Course Ratings for both Kent as well as England Golf and Peter Long, one of the Kent Golf Rules Officials was on hand for any queries relating to ‘Terms of Competition’ – which is the one area that does not fall under the remit of the WHS. Kent Club Support Officer Allison Boozer provided guidance on recruitment, retention and rewarding those who volunteer on club handicap committees. Sarah McDonald, County Secretary rounded off each session with a fun WHS and Course Rating ‘quiz’ where the winners and runners up were the lucky winners of Kent Golf logo golf balls.
A big thanks to Mike Greener, Handicap Co-ordinator at England Golf, Allison Boozer, Kent CSO, Chris Handson, Regional Handicap Advisor, Mark Ward and Peter Long from Kent Golf. Thanks also to Hannah Eves, Assistant County Secretary who ensured the smooth running of both sessions and a big thank you to the members and team at Sittingbourne & Milton Regis Golf Club for allowing us to hold the two day event at the club and their continued support of the County.
