Spring Meeting report

Date published: 14 Mar 2023

Monday was lovely; 15 degrees with a bit of sunshine. Sadly, we were playing our Spring Meeting on Tuesday when it was windy, rainy and hovering around freezing. The joys of being a golfer, eh?

Despite the bleak beginning, our full field of 72 entrants, playing fourball betterball, were still bright and enthusiastic on arrival at The London Club, eager to enjoy the bountiful breakfast and make full use of the practice facilities. The early starters had the worst of the weather - there was even a tiny flurry of snow – but by midday the sun had made an appearance and conditions on the International course were much improved.

We had two nearest the pins (8th and 12th ); the first being won by Pat Morecroft (Nizels) and the latter by Tom Spencer (Sittingbourne), with both players converting their putts for a handy four-pointer!

With some very decent scoring, things were tight at the top of the leaderboard with 41 points needed for third place – well done to Brandon McCormack and Ben Edge (both Kings Hill). One point better and taking second prize were Craig Gofton (Knole Park) and Malcolm Gofton (West Malling). It was a valiant effort, but not quite enough to deny our winners and Spring Meeting Champions, Alexander Moore (Cherry Lodge) and Jon Bromley (Sundridge Park) who triumphed with a splendid 44 points. Many congratulations!

Thank you to the players who stayed for the presentation; all the prize winners (some of whom had had a very long wait) were in attendance and it was much appreciated. All players were very complimentary about the course and the hospitality shown to them by The London Club and we at Kent Golf echo that sentiment.

Here’s hoping it’s not too long before we return!
