Winter Fourball Final report

The weather at Rochester and Cobham Park matched the title of the competition perfectly, for wintry it most certainly was. Extra layers were the order of the day for our finalists - Sue Smollett and Kath Buckley, representing Chislehurst, and Jackie Mount and Claire Wilson, representing Canterbury.
As the lowest handicap, Sue was the one giving shots, with Kath, Jackie and Claire receiving four, three and five respectively. There was no sign of nerves on the first tee with all four players hitting a good drive and the game looked set to be a well-fought, close affair.
Canterbury, however, had a good early spell and raced into a 4-up lead after seven holes. Chislehurst then began their comeback and had reduced the deficit to only one after the eleventh. Things continued in a nip-and-tuck manner but Canterbury used their shots wisely and eventually triumphed on the sixteenth green, worthy 3&2 winners.
All four finalists should be commended for their speedy play and for the friendly spirit in which the game was played.
