An additional benefit of affiliation is the recent introduction of the personal liability insurance offered by England Golf, which provides affiliated club members with cover of up to £10 million on any UK golf facility.
Playing Member Definition
Affiliation fees are payable for all playing categories of membership, which is defined as anyone who has a contract with the club providing playing rights on an SSS rated course. A contract is any legal agreement, whether or not subject to payment, by which individuals become playing members of the club. This includes all categories of playing member, including but not limited to Full, Senior, Junior, Honorary, Temporary, Country, Overseas, 5&6 Day, Flexible, or Points based. Playing rights also include affiliated clubs linked to public or other courses where the member’s actual contract to play the course is with a third party.
Multiple Clubs
Where an individual is a member of more than one club in England, they should only pay England Golf fees once at their home club. Where the individual is a member of more than one club in the same County they should pay only one County fee at their home club. Where they are a member of clubs in different Counties they should pay a County fee in each case.
Handicaps
It is a matter between the club and the member as to whether the member is allocated a handicap under the Worldwide Handicapping System. This does not affect their eligibility for payment of affiliation fees, and all members with playing rights must be counted, whether or not they have a handicap.
Academy or Beginner Members
Many clubs have beginner memberships, which allow new players to take lessons and use the practice facilities without access to the SSS rated course. Affiliation fees are not payable for these individuals, regardless of age, until they are given playing rights on the course or part thereof.
