Junior Championship 2025 report

Date published: 13 Aug 2025

Conditions at North Foreland Golf Club were unusually benign for our 2025 Kent Junior Championship, and our field of 69 set out with great expectations and much enthusiasm.

In the 36-hole medal, we had 55 players doing battle and emerging top of the pile for the boys, and becoming our 2025 County Champion was Luca Alderson (Poult Wood) with scores of 71, 76 (+5). Runner-up was Harry Fryer with a pair of matching 74s, taking it on countback from third placed Justin Chenu (both Rochester & Cobham Park). Harry’s fine performance also bagged him the A.E. Packman trophy for the best gross score for a player under the age of 16. Winner of the Handicap Cup was Ashford’s Elliott Flisher (69, 66), with Michael Haywood (Rochester & Cobham Park) coming second (66, 73). Third place went to home player Jasper Nutley-King (70, 73) on countback from Caleb Twyman (Prince’s).

In the girls’ event, Selina Bartarya (Chelsfield Lakes) was a runaway winner by 13 shots from Kieki Chapman (Chart Hills), with adjusted gross scores of 74, 75, thus becoming our County Champion for 2025. Taking the Handicap trophy was Alice Chou (Rochester & Cobham Park) with adjusted nett scores of 70, 68.

In the 18-hole stableford competition, 14 young golfers took part, and there was some excellent potential on display. With a commanding performance that resulted in 43 points, Ethan Crabb (Prince’s) became the 2025 Junior Handicap Champion. With 38 points, Joshua Searle (Sundridge Park) took the runner-up spot, one point ahead of Bearsted’s Baden Brown. The Hayward trophy, which is given to the player who has shown the most promise, went to Ethan, who has only been playing in earnest since January this year and has already reduced his handicap to below 24. With 78% of his cards coming in competition, this is a really impressive start to his golfing career.

Many congratulations to Luca, Selina, and Ethan, and our thanks go to the wonderful Kent Golf team of referees and volunteers who gave up so much of their time to assist on the day. North Foreland were exceptional hosts, as always, and we are very grateful for their continued support of our competitions.

Our Junior Championship in 2026 will be held slightly earlier in the year on Wednesday 27 May at Prince’s Golf Club – now there’s a date to get in your diary!
