Race to St. George’s Final

After a season of qualifying competitions and gaining hard-won points for the Order of Merit, twenty-three juniors received their reward by teeing it up at an Open venue, Royal St. George’s, for their final stroke play event of the year. With double points on offer there was still all to play for and, despite the wind doing its best to cause chaos, we still saw some good scoring.
The scratch winner on the day, with a very impressive 73, was Joshua Van Niekerk (Kings Hill). This gave him maximum points towards the Order of Merit and saw him leapfrog eight players to take this year’s title of Race to St. George’s Champion. Just one behind on the day, in second place, was Josh Dugard from Chelsfield Lakes, with Max Murray (Sundridge Park), taking the bronze medal with a gross 78.
The Handicap event followed the same pattern with Oscar Ford (Bearsted) winning both the day - with a nett 73 - and the Order of Merit, after starting the day in 9th position. Second on the day was Mia Bolton (London) followed by George Leach (Prince’s) who came in third.
A separate prize was given for the best girls’ nett on the day and this was won by Chloe Samuel (Dartford) with a very creditable 74.
Thanks go to Royal St George’s for their continued generosity to us in hosting this event. Their superb hospitality was enjoyed by all and I’m sure many of those present will be very much hoping for a return visit next year.
The following qualifiers are already fixed:
South – 13 April at Sene Valley
North – 1 June at Sittingbourne
East – 24 July at Broome Park
So, get them in your diaries to avoid disappointment!
