Kent Seniors played a friendly match against Kent 2nd Team at Canterbury Golf Club on Tuesday 29 September. The format was 4 pairs playing 4BBB matchplay off scratch and we managed to put together pairs of similar handicap levels by lending a few seniors to the 2nd team, but just for the day of course!
We were very lucky with the weather – it was raining about 10 mins before we went out but then it cleared up beautifully and we had sun all the way round.
All the matches were competitive and the final score was a 3-1 win for the Seniors. However, the 2nd Team captain, Ingrid Long, did point out that the pair playing for the Seniors against her were actually younger than her and her partner. She therefore claimed it was morally a 2-2 draw!!
The full results are below (Seniors names first):
Kent Seniors team played its 2nd friendly match of the year against Middlesex on Tuesday 8 September 2020 at Canterbury Golf Club.
Although originally planned as a league match, when the league was cancelled we turned it into a friendly game in which we agreed with Middlesex not to field our first team regulars so as to give others more experience of playing for the county.
The format was 3 pairs playing 4BBB. A good competitive game was enjoyed by all, which Kent won by 2 matches to 1.
Ingrid Long and Helen Lejot were in particularly good form, subjecting their opponents to a barrage of birdies that led to a 7&6 win. The Middlesex captain, Judith Pedersen, was on the receiving end and commented on how well they were playing. Our two other pairs had rather closer games, resulting in Jen Rutherford and Anne-Marie Forrester winning 3&2 and Finella Una and Kathie Mabberley losing 4&3.
Middlesex complimented Canterbury on their hosting of the game and said how pleased they were to be able to play a match in this difficult year.
Kent Seniors team contested a friendly match against Surrey on Friday 14 August 2020 at Sittingbourne and Milton Regis. Although originally planned as a league match, when the league was cancelled we turned it into a friendly game in which we try and play a mix of experienced players with some who have less experience of senior county matches.
The format was 4 pairs playing 4BBB. A good competitive game was enjoyed by all, despite Kent losing by 1 match to 3.
Ali Kingston and Karen White were the Kent winning pair (2&1) and the other pairs were Terri Linskey and Liz Owsley (2&1), Gill McMillan and Sue Smollett (2 down) and Marina Bobeldijk and Ann Third (6&5).
SMRGC were very welcoming and we would like to thank their manager, Steve Bootes for helping us to put on this event at short notice. The Surrey players were particularly pleased to have the opportunity to play in this much disrupted season and expressed their thanks for the excellent hospitality.
